They're both very midrangey and neither is able to reproduce the full low end of a bass. The same is true for the regular Hoof too, which I've played in stores several times. I play a Stingray and I like the bass EQ up quite high, which the Cloven can't quite reproduce. If you play a passive bass it might not cut much low end at all in fact. I'm not sure because it's new and I haven't taken it to band practice yet. Similar to the AG it cuts a little low end but is probably still viable on bass. I miss mine quite a bit because I was partial to that sound, but it was just too limiting to keep on my board. It cuts a small amount of low end but it's still a good, full sound that supports the band. You have to keep the volume knob on your bass way down in order to get the gain low enough. I used to have an Acapulco Gold, which I would say is viable but inconvenient on bass. I use mine specifically for times when I want less low end (solos, atmospheric stuff with the Afterneath, etc.) It's a fantastic pedal and I love it especially on guitar, but it's not the best thing to serve as your primary bass dirt. I see some recommendations for the Plumes and would caution that it does strip away a good amount of low end. Despite their marketing, their stuff really is more suitable for guitar than bass. I haven't encountered an EQD dirt pedal that I would call ideal for bass.

It has a way of taking anything you put into it, even little imperfections and flubs, and turning them into interesting details that add to the world you're building with it.
